Jan 14, 2010 Library Mode Greyed out. Bmac6996 Junior Member. Version, I was able to get setup my video library, select the type and get library mode working. For whatever reason it greyed out and I can't get back into it working. Select some random film or mp3 (for mp3s I'd select the folder) and press C then choose 'Add item to library.

Hi. Fan of this software!
So I tried d/l the latest stable version and now have upgraded to the lastest nightly build.
When I first installed the stable version, I was able to get setup my video library, select the type and get library mode working. For whatever reason it greyed out and I can't get back into it working.
Reading other posts and tried upgrading to latest nightly build. Still no go.
Here is my log:

I know they are working on the database so it may be that your sources are invalid now.
Use mythicalLibrarian to make a library out of your MythTV files. Leave the recording to MythTV and use XBMC as your library.

to enable the library you need to have stuff in the library - damn logical eh? scan some shit.

I already have sources.
In file mode. it shows all in there. All folders, with art and movie. Set it to default and type and scrapper.
But library mode is grayed out.
Any more ideas?

You have to manually scan at least one item before the library enables. Select some random film or mp3 (for mp3s I'd select the folder) and press C then choose 'Add item to library'. Once you've done this the library mode will be enabled.
If you have already done this than maybe the database has been damaged. In that case backup then delete your userdata folder and try rescanning.

Yep. I add the folder.
Hit C and gives me the option to scan. I scan. and its there under Files.
Look to see if i can get into library mode. no go.
I also tried rebuilding database. I deleted the database folder in my appdata/xbmc folder in Win 7. Reload XBMC and it looks like it rebuild but still same issue.

Ok. so I come home and I did the guide (which i've done before).
I did the run automated scan (again) and this time it works. library was highlighted and i was able to get in.
As I amazed i was. i tried to duplicate this success. Delete the source and tried doing it again. no go. now it doesn't work. Don't understand this.
Any ideas??
(Sorry for the quick bump.. i was already on the 2nd page. didn't want to get lost in the many issues)

highlight a show and click 'i' or your info button. That should force the show to get into the library. It's not a long term method, but it'll say a lot about what's going on.

Well that did work. I pulled up the info on the movie and it brought library mode to life. Now when I go into library mode, that movie I pulled info about is the only movie in there.
Is there a way that I can do an 'info' to all my movies to get it into library mode? or is there something else I can do to get this library mode working?

That's supposed to be what scanning does. I'm guessing you either skipped a step or having something a little bit odd going on with your network. Try rescanning. Tell us how you have the 'set content' page set up, and post a debug log done while scanning.

Not attempting to hi-jack, but I'm having similar problems with library set up. If I 'i' on a film, a message appears that it is 'loading movie details' and after a long pause the film (just that film) is available in the library.
Will pop up details of my own problems in my own thread but just to say I am having similar issues..

i have an MBP running OS X 10.6.5 and i have a 500GB external HDD with 2 partitions (NTFS & FAT32), which i mounted to my MBP using FSTAB
SOME of the files in the NTFS partitions are greyed-out, and i can't copy/open them on my MBP.
1. Copying the file returns this error:
'one or more items in {file} can't be changed because they are in use'
2. double-clicking the file does nothing
3. Right-click > Open With, returns this error
'Item {file} is used by mac os x and can't be opened'
i've used Terminal to move the file to FAT 32 drive and my MBP Desktop, but steps #1, #2, #3 still don't work
i realized the files that are greyed out are those that i copied from my MBP to the NTFS drive. Existing files in the drive can be opened.
any idea what can be done? been searching the whole morning but can't seem to find someone with the same issue.
