I have been a loyal patron of Belmont library for 12years and I just think it is a wonderful library and very helpful, friendly and welcoming staff. Belmont Library already has alot to offer but I do think it needs more facilities so as to gain more patrons like myself.

I would love to see a coffee area and lounges and / or bean bags where people from all ages can have a cuppa and recline with a book, make the atmosphere more relaxed. I think there is still a stigma associated with libraries where it is stiff and you cant make a sound, this already is not the atmosphere at Belmont so I would love to see this already friendly, relaxed space become more so.

I would love to see more young people utilise the library , it could have Ipads secured to the tables where everyone could come and use applications, kids could play games, research topics and you could have a wonderful Literacy program called 'Reading Eggs' to help kids read and learn.

You could have a WII set up so the teenagers could use it to relax.

I am a Mum of two kids and I already reguarly attend the books and babies programs and read and ryhmes, my kids love it. More of these sorts of programs would be great, the yoga with books was great and I am very sad to see that is no longer on at Belmont.

Mums after attending the Books and Babies or Read and Ryhme times love to stay and have a chat, you could have a cuppa and a chat or have guest speakers on topics for parents and kids.

My husband owns a 3D printer and designs and prints models, we would be happy to place a 3D printer in the library and my husband would be more than happy to maintain and train the staff in how it operates, very simple. You could charge a small fee for use, this would be great for High School students for projects and creative people. This would be a great way to bring more youth into the library, 3D printing is the way things are going.

In addition my husband also owns a few Pinball machines , you could charge 40 cents for a game kids love it as well as big kids too. You could have some in the library and create a games room, a space where everyone could have a bit of fun and then borrow some books etc.

Toy Library for parents where parents can borrow a few toys for a week or two for a gold coin donation , I would love this and this would definately encourage more people from all ages to the library. Not only are they borrowing toys but then books , DVDS, magazines etc.

I did attend Newcastle Library a few years ago where they run a literacy program for kids called 'Ten Minutes a day' , encouraging the importance of reading for children, parents to read books to their kids.

I would love to see more guest speakers or authors read their books and sign them, in America this is huge in the libraries where groups of people sit and relax and listen to a book being read to them.

I would love to have a 'swap recipes hour ' so people can learn and take away new recipes from every age group. A creative drawing group for kids and adults , a young readers book club to appeal to the teenage population and a movie book club and then that group has a movie trip once or twice a year, I would love that!!!!.

These are my suggestions , I would love to see my Belmont library have more facilities and programs and to have the chance to meet more people, I love Belmont library. Free program to fix pictures.

More than $200,000 will be spent upgrading Wangi Wangi Library into a contemporary ‘creative hub’ catering for changing community demands.

The overhaul, funded partly by Round Two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, will create new flexible spaces offering a greater range of options for library users.

The upgrade will pave the way for temporary displays and exhibitions, improved areas for community programs such as book groups, art workshops and children’s ‘Read and Rhyme’ sessions, and an enhanced display of the library’s collection.

Lake Macquarie City Council Major Creative Projects Innovation Coordinator Jo Smith said community feedback has shaped the development of the project to date, with the next phase of consultation kicking off today.

“We’ve come up with some draft concept designs for the revamped library and creative hub, but we would love to hear how people think these spaces could be used before we move ahead,” Ms Smith said.

“The ultimate goal is to create a library more responsive to community needs, with improvements that enhance social connection and participation, encourage lifelong learning, and expand creative opportunities for the Wangi community.”

The total project cost is expected to be $220,000, with $116,500 from the NSW Government grant and the remainder from Council.

Ms Smith said the planned refurbishment was a key part of the current Lake Mac Libraries Strategic Plan, which outlines Council's role to develop, invigorate and promote local public libraries for the community.
